What is Retina?
The retina is the light-sensitive layer of tissue at the back of the eyeball. Images that come through the eye’s lens are focused on the retina, which converts these images to electric signals and sends them along the optic nerve to the brain.
Types of retinal diseases
- Diabetes-related retinopathy.
- Retinal detachment.
- Retinal tears or holes.
- Infectious retinitis.
- Central serous retinopathy

A retinal disease can affect any part of your retina, including your macula i.e.the center part of your retina that lets you see details. Many retinal diseases cause symptoms that affect your vision. It’s important to find and treat diseases of the retina. Many of them can cause blindness or low vision if they aren’t treated.

condition, treatment can stop the disease or slow down how quickly it gets worse. Therapy options include surgical procedures, laser treatments and injections of medicines into or around your eyes.
Vitrectomy is a surgical procedure to treat the following types of retinal disease:
